Have you ever wanted to make a moisturizing lotion but what you end up with is way too heavy or oily? That’s probably because you’re making a body butter. They are very different.
Today I want to teach you how to make my favorite emulisifed lotion recipe.
Many people avoid making lotions because they get nervous by the word “Emulsify”.
You see..a lotion is made up of part oil and part water. These ingredients don’t want to mix together so you need to use an emulsifier to get them to be friends.
If you want to keep it natural a good emulsifying agent would be beeswax (although this is technically not an emulsified). Otherwise you can order emulsifying wax online.
IToday, I want to share with you an emulsified lotion recipe that I make often. I love using this for myself, OR giving it away as a gift to friends.
Britt’s Emulsified Lotion Recipe
1 ½ Tbsp Cocoa Butter
2 Tbsp Jojoba Oil
¼ Cup + 2 Tbsp Avacado Oil
2 Tbsp grated Beeswax
Video Tutorial Of How To Make A Lotion
1 Cup Water (same temperature as the oil/beeswax mixture)
Step 1: Heat the oils, butter, and beeswax together in a double broiler, until the mixture is completely liquid.
Step 2: In a separate bowl, combine any essential oils to your water.
Step 3: Make sure the oil/butter/beeswax blend is the SAME temperature as the water/essential oil blend (it should be warm). Use a thermometer to make sure that these two are exactly the same temperature before you mix them together—this part needs to be very precise!
Step 3: Blend the mixture from step 1 with an immersion blender, while slowly incorporating the warm water.
Step 4: Continue to blend the two together until it transforms into a white lotion.
